<b>NARO change</b> <br>KAMPALA — Dr. Dennis Tumwesigye has been appointed National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) acting director general. He formerly headed the Coffee Research Institute in Kituza, Mukono district.

KAMPALA — Dr. Dennis Tumwesigye has been appointed National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) acting director general. He formerly headed the Coffee Research Institute in Kituza, Mukono district. Dr. Twiza Sengooba, who has been in the biotechnology programme in Kawanda, is now the deputy director general in charge of research. She replaces Dr. John Aluma who died last month. The changes take immediate effect.

Pope names
MBARARA — Pope benedict XVI has named Msgr. Lambert Bainomugisha as Auxiliary Bishop of Mbarara Archdiocese. The Apostolic Nuncio, archbishop Christophe Pierre (below), announced the appointment on Saturday. Bainomugisha was ordained priest in Nyamitanga cathedral on July 13, 1991. He is currently the chancellor of Mbarara Archdiocese. The date of his episcopal ordination is yet to be communicated.

New bishop
MBARARA — The House of Bishops has elected the Rev. Canon Jonah Mwesigwa Katoneene as Bishop for West Ankole diocese. Katoneene replaces the retired Rev. William Magambo. katoneene has worked as an ambassador and manager, promoting ecumenical leadership formation in Uganda and Africa, a statement signed by the provincial secretary, the Rev. Aaron Mwesigye, said yesterday. Katoneene will be consecrated on January 29, 2006 at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Bweranyangi, West Ankole Diocese.

Eight injured
Kapchorwa — A family of eight was seriously injured when landslides struck a hilly village in Benet sub-county in Kween county on thursday. Benet LC5 councillor Moses Mwanga said the landslides destroyed grass-thatched houses and food reserves of Alfred Bushedich. The victims were rescued by villagers mobilised by health workers, Police and local councillors.
