Former Gayaza High teachers here to mark centenary

FORMER Gayaza high school headmistresses and teachers are back to celebrate the school’s 100th anniversary on July 16, reports <b>Apollo Mubiru.</b>

FORMER Gayaza high school headmistresses and teachers are back to celebrate the school’s 100th anniversary on July 16, reports Apollo Mubiru.
Four Britons who taught at the school expressed their joy at seeing the girls they taught serving the country in different capacities.
Joan Cox, who taught at Gayaza from 1938 to 1972 and was a former headmistress, led the team. Others are Sheelagh Warren (1961-1991), Janice Hobday (1965-1995) and Ann Cutler (1961-2001).
Speaking in fluent Luganda, Cox said, “I am delighted to be in Uganda to see my girls.”
Flanked by some old girls of the school, Joyce Mpanga, Sarah Nkonge Muwonge and Irene Zikusooka, Cox told the press at Namirembe guesthouse on Thursday that she was happy that the school had maintained the standards that she and others who first run the school set.
