ABOUT 13 people were killed in an LRA road ambush in Kitgum district on Sunday, the northern-based army spokesman, Capt. Paddy Ankunda said.

However, other sources said 17 died in the ambush where scores of passengers were injured when the rebels ambushed a Dyna pick-up truck UAD 840X on the kitgum-Potika road in Lamwo county.

Three civilian bodies were found in the nearby bush. The vehicle that was carrying traders from Kitgum town to Potika market was later set ablaze. The news of the ambush paralysed business in Kitgum town.

In another development, five people including two UPDF soldiers died when the rebels waylaid them at Ngora village in Lukole sub-county, Pader district on Sunday.

Ankunda could not give details of the victims when contacted yesterday.

One lorry was also set ablaze by suspected LRA rebels on the Karuma-Pakwach road on Friday.

The truck was heading to Kampala when it developed some mechanical problems and got grounded near Agung trading centre in Anaka sub-county, Gulu district.

The rebels have of late stepped up their attacks and ambushes on civilians and vehicles in Kitgum.
