EAGLES Production, Uganda’s premier local pop band, have finally spoken out on their absence at this year’s MTN/ Radio Simba’s Ekiggunda Ky’Omwaka held on July 3 at Nakivubo Stadium.

“We are apologising to Radio Simba and MTN, the entire music fraternity and, especially our fans. We are so sorry we could not be there for you at the MTN/Radio Simba’s Ekiggunda Ky’Omwaka,” Mesach Semakula, one of the most popular singers and a director in the band, said.

“It is no fault of the organisers. We were paid our dues in full and in time,” he said. “The problem stemmed from the fact that we had a double booking that day. We were slated to perform at a concert in Fort Portal and never wanted to disappoint our fans over there.”

Semakula added that they proceeded to Fort Portal the previous night in the hope that they would be able to make it back to Kampala in time for Ekigunda Ky’Omwaka. However, they failed because the road, which is still under construction, was not easy to navigate.
The band, which was slated to perform at Ekiggunda Ky’Omwaka, did not make an appearance at the music festival. No explanation was given to either the fans or the organisers.

There has been no official explanation of the incident hitherto. Radio Simba’s MD, Aga Sekalala was reportedly furious over the incident.

He had asked them to refund twice the money they were paid. The band was paid sh10m for the performance in cash and cheque.

Sources however said the two parties resolved their differences on Monday this week with an agreement for the band to refund Simba's money.
