The Democratic Party (DP) is now officially registered. The Registrar General yesterday morning issued the party’s certificate of registration to Prof. Frederick Ssempebwa.

Ssempebwa (right) said he was yet to inform the party’s leadership about the registration, after which they would arrange for a public hand-over of the certificate.

“I have done my work. I am going to inform the leadership so that they start organising for the hand-over of the certificate,” Ssempebwa, who was mandated to receive the certificate after mediating between the wrangling DP groups, said.

Party President Paul Ssemwogerere could not be got for comment. His vice-president, Nwoya County MP Zachary Olum and Francis Bwengye, who had led one of the factions, were also not available.

An excited DP spokesman Jude Mbabaali said the party’s National Executive Committee and the president general would in the next few days declare a programme of action. “We are happy. Now there is no excuse, we are going to campaign against the Movement,” he said.
