SN Brussels' 'awards' cruise
It is not everyday that the chief executive officer (CEO) of SN Brussels comes to town. That is part of what made the SN Brussels lunch boat cruise on the Sudhir Ruparelia's Sundowner a rare experience. Welcoming Peter Davies, the SN Brussel's CEO, who has been in Uganda for the last two years said the boat ride wasp rimarily meant to recognise the outstanding work of travel agents that the airlines has worked with.
Then there was the farewell to outgoing country manager Geert Lemmen. The media were in fact the only invited industry 'outsiders.' The Sundowner was all set to leave by 12:20pm, but not yet. We still had to wait for our colleagues from the Daily Monitor. So, we set sail at about 1:00pm, food and drinks in plenty.
And we got into the partying long before Davies prizes were dished out. Then it was time to cut the cake, have lunch and again cut another cake to bid farewell to Lemmen. Uniglobe Lets Go Travel emerged the best overall winner of the 2004/05 sales performance. Davies said his visit has enabled him meet staff, agents and clients to get a better understanding of the market. "Response from my visit has been very positive. Our staff and travel agents have done a tremendous job. They seem to be very happy, but we can't afford to be complacent because this is a very competitive business," he said. The best sales award (Electronic Tickets Privilege), went to Concorde Travel Bureau International, while UTB 2004 took the Business Class Tickets category.

French mark july 14
EVERY July 14, French nationals gather to celebrate Bastille day in remembrance of the 1789 storming of Paris.
This year's celebration, which was at the French ambassador's residence in Nakasero, attracted very many guests. They wined and danced to French tunes. State minister for foreign affairs, Okello Oryem, was the guest of honour. Other diginitories included the Vatican representative, the Annuncio Christoph Pierre, Presidential advisor on media John Nagenda, DP's Paul Ssemogerere, city mayor Ssebaana Kizito and the CEO of SN Brussels, Davis. Ambassodor Bernard Garancher and wife welcomed them.
Activities to mark the day began a day earlier at CLub Obbligatto, where Chido Explosion band treated guests to Congolese, French and English songs. Language barriers and entry fee of sh5,000 kept Kampala's party goers away from Obbligato.

Kipepeo concert thrills city fans
THE Kipepeo show organised by Jeckaki at Calender Guest House recently started eight hours late because Chameleone was still in Tororo district. However, the long wait proved worthwhile when he arrived at 1:30am.
The enthusiastic crowd requested Chameleone to sing and he did not waste time. He proved to his fans that despite the weekend troubles with artistes Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool, he was still 'their man'. The artiste sang 18 tracks from his albums non-stop.
Gates had been flung as early as 7:00pm.
Before Chameleone arrived, a local band, Zenith, Super charger Moses Nsubuga of Radio Simba, Kabuye Ssemboga and General Mega Dee entertained the crowd .

Lions clubs honour boss
The Lions clubs of Uganda held a banquet in recognition of Lion Rao Kolluri, who was recently installed as District Governor for District 411B for 2005/6. The district, which includes Tanzania, has 62 clubs with 37 of them in Uganda. At the banquet at Grand Imperial hotel, guests (Lions), mingled, dined and danced to local music.
Despite starting the event late and the absence of the guest of honour, Adolf Mwesige, minister of state for constitutional affairs, the Lions received their awards. Kolluri, who joined the Lions Club in 1979, urged members to dedicate their lives to 'Lionism' for the good of society.

Club Silk's Nite shift
Club Silk has a reputation of hitting fans with new theme nights much often that enthusiasts lose count of the new days and nights.
Just last week, revellers ushered 'All Skool Nite' not knowing they would have another theme shortly after.
Last Thursday, instead of the usual Movie nite, patrons were treated to another night of pleasure in form of board games and request songs. You part with sh10, 000 and have access to the Lounge's facilities, including several board games. Ludo fans will no longer have to saunter in bufundas, but in the confines of comfy leather couches in the Lounge.
A quintet of Sizzling and ready to 'serve' babes from the The Obsessions graced the dance floor and worked up the rather chatty crowd. Revellers requested for the 1980s, 1990s and current hits. Ragga D also performed a jumble of old and new songs.
Like Elvis Wavamunno said, "it's the best way to unwind from office to club."

Hotel Rwanda stars due
Next week, Hotel Rwanda Hollywood stars, Don Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo, will be jetting into the country to promote the film, which premieres at Cineplex, Garden City on July 22.
The stars will meet Hollywood big shots who are already in the country for the shooting of The Last King of Scotland. Forest Whitaker, Kerry Washington (from The Last King of Scotland) in company of Don Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo.
It would not be any better. And to make it breathtaking, they will be joined by Paul Rusesabagina, whose life as the holiest of men, who saved both the Hutus and Tutsis, is portrayed by Cheadle.
"Those who will attend the premiere will be hosted to a reception at the Rooftop Garden" according to Denis Ruharo of D-Mark, who are managing the premeire. Highlight of the cocktail will be a photo exhibition.
The proceeds will go to children in the war-torn north.

Wine gets bodyguards
Following the recent infamous brawl between local artistes Jose Chameleone, Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool, Wine has hired three kanyamas (bodyguards) to protect him. Recently, Wine entered Lido Beach in Entebe for a performance at Kefa's Memorial Concert flanked by three Kanyamas and the the Fire Base Crew. The guards moved hand-in-hand with him throughout the show and even escorted him to the toilets! Wine and Chameleone have been undergoing martial arts drills under singer and karate man Loketo Lee.
