SISTERS, this is a godsend. You no longer have to fret about the ravages of age or motherhood on your breasts. And if you want to keep ‘saying’ not ‘lying’ that you are 20 every year, this is a real catch for you dear.
Just walk into Mulago Hospital for mammaplasty, a cosmetic surgery to increase or decrease the size of the breasts.
Dr Edris Kalanzi, a specialist plastic surgeon at Mulago Hospital, says the surgery can be done for women who are not comfortable with the size or shape of their breasts.
He says the surgery can also be done to make breasts firm after breast-feeding.
Dr Ben Khingi, who is also a specialist plastic surgeon at Mulago Hospital, says the implants have not yet been done in Uganda because people are not aware.
“The implants are made of silicone gel. It is the only substance that cannot be rejected by the body,”Khingi says.
There was, however, litigation in US about silicone implants in the 1990s. But it was later found that these cases were judged without concrete medical proof of the connection between the implants and the medical complaints.
The major concern regarding breast implants has to do with local complications, such as capsular contracture, which is the unnatural firmness of the breast caused by tightening of scar tissue around the implant.
This occurs in between 5% to 10% of patients. There is also implant rupture.
“For cosmetic surgery, the patient has to foot the bill for importing the implants, which is between sh2m and sh3m,” Kalanzi says.
So you walk out of the hospital with your confidence boosted because you have your dream breasts.
For all of us, sisters, ‘trendy nipples’ are a worthwhile investment. Try it out.
