THE Police in Pallisa are investigating allegations that Butebo MP Dr. Stephen Malinga (right) on Tuesday threatened violence against Yahaya Hamila, the Pallisa LC5 councillor for Kakoro sub-county.

“there was a hot exchange of words between Malinga and Hamila,” said Eastern Police commander Bob Ngobi yesterday.

“The councillor interpreted the exchange as threatening violence. He reported the matter to the Police and we are investigating it,” Ngobi added.

Malinga is reported to have clashed with Hamila over attempts to transfer Kabwangasi and Kakoro sub-counties of Butebo county to the new Budaka district, while the rest of the sub-counties in Butebo remain in Pallisa.

While most of Butebo is occupied by the Iteso, Kabwangasi and Kakoro are predominantly occupied by Bagwere, who will now belong to Budaka.

The wrangle has sucked in industry state minister Jennifer Namuyangu, who is also the Pallisa Woman MP, Kirya Gole, the Budaka county MP and Dr. Sam Lyomoki, a workers’ MP. Namuyangu, Gole and Lyomoki are Bagwere, while Malinga is an Etesot.

Ngobi said Namuyangu convened a meeting at Kakoro on Tuesday and Malinga arrived there just after Namuyangu had left.

Malinga has denied threatening violence against Hamila.
