KAMPALA — Former president Godfrey Binaisa’s divorced Japanese wife Tomoko Yamamoto is still in the country and her property is at their marital home in Muyenga. A private company, I.I associates, which is in charge of her stay, refused to disclose her whereabouts and when she would leave the country. Their marriage ended after Bianaisa refused Yamamoto’s plea to donate 150 acres of land to the Moon Church. Last week, Binaisa moved out of his house and gave Yamamoto up to today to quit.

KAMPALA — The First Vice-President of Sudan, Lt. Gen. John Garang, is in the country for private talks with President Yoweri Museveni. He arrived yesterday via Entebbe Airport. The talks will take place at Museveni’s country home in Rwakitura, Mbarara.

Chameleone
KAMPALA — The Police bond given to local artiste Jose Chameleone has been extended to August 5. The deputy O/C CID for Kampala Extra, Charles Tumwesigye, said chame-leone failed to record a statement before leaving the country. Chameleone is wanted over his recent clash with another artiste Babe Cool. His lawyer, however, said he had responded to the bond.

Police hunt
SEMBABULE — The Police are hunting for a presiding officer on suspicion of malpractice in Thursday’s referendum. Francis Mwesigye of VR Promotions in Kampala, was briefly arrested but escaped from Kanoni polling station in Mijwala sub-county where he was the presiding officer. He allegedly stuffed ballot boxes and issued ballot papers to non eligible voters, the southern regional CID chief, Dison Onyigi, said yesterday.

FDC to hold
KAMPALA — The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is to hold its delegate’s conference in August, Abdul Katuntu, the party’s human rights co-ordinator, has said. He said the main item on the agenda is to elect a candidate for the 2006 presidential elections. Reports revealed that the party might front Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu, the national chief mobiliser.
