PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni (right) has said he is happy with the outcome of the referendum.
Museveni, meeting diplomats in Kampala on Saturday, dismissed the view that the voter turnout was low, saying the people were given the opportunity to vote and if some did not take it, they had the right to do so.
The envoys included US ambassador Jimmy Kolker, Norway’s Tori Gos, Yoka Brandt of the Netherlands and the British Deputy High Commissioner, Charles Hamilton.
“I am home dry,” said Museveni, adding that his supporters were totally opposed to the opening up of the political space but within the limited time he had been able to allay their fears.
The President said some people were reluctant to turn up to vote because they were used to elections dealing with personalities. He said he had heard that some voters stayed away after learning that his photo was not on the ballot paper.
