AFTER the success of the Thursday pullout with model questions and answers for passing Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), a similar pullout for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) has now come within easy reach of candidates, parents and teachers countrywide.
The New Vision, under its Newspapers in Education project, will effective tomorrow start running a weekly pullout to equip UCE candidates and other secondary school students with skills to prepare for national examinations. The already popular Pass PLE pullout was launched last month.
“Pupils and students of PLE and UCE will now be able to perfect their revision, enhance their knowledge, acquire and sharpen their examination skills in addition to what their teachers give them,” said Barbara Kaija, the Features Editor.
The Education Editor, John Eremu, said experienced and senior teachers from reputable schools have been enlisted to set the UCE questions, give students effective revision tips and approach to the questions.
Kaija said the teachers would first focus on the most problematic areas students face. “They will then prepare guided notes and exercises to put every student in the easy reach of revision and information,” Kaija said.
“Hopefully, the teachers will endeavour to use their experiences to give effective tips of handling specific areas of the subject matter for examination purposes,” she added.
Special attempt shall be made to demystify, particularly the science subjects. This is also in line with the Government policy of promoting the teaching of sciences in schools.
The prioritised subjects include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Language, Geography, Literature, Agriculture and History.
The Pass PLE pullout is very popular with pupils, teachers and parents. Ivan Ndajige, 14, a P.7 pupil of Buganda Road Primary School, said he informed his parents about Pass PLE last week and asked them to buy him a copy of The New Vision every Thursday.
