THE Jinja district chairman, Fred Gume Ngobi, has vowed to fight against saboteurs of development in the district.
Gume cited a ‘clique’ of councillors and Nabamba Budhagali, a spiritual leader, saying they wanted to frustrate development projects.
District authorities recently leased a piece of land near Bujagali falls to Kampala businessman Sudhir Ruparelia for construction of a hotel, a move opposed by Budhagali and a few councillors.
But Gume said, “One person cannot stop development that will help people in Budondo and Jinja as a whole. I will look for more investors and bring them.”
“Priority for employment in Sudhir’s investment will be given to the residents here, which is good for Jinja’s development,” he said, while addressing teachers, parents and students of East Secondary School in Budondo on Saturday.
Gume rubbished threats by Budhagali that he would die a pauper, saying with God’s help, nothing would happen to him.
Area MP Dr. Frank Nabwiso said Budondo sub-county needed more government-aided secondary schools to uplift education standards.
He said though the area is famous for its agricultural potential, there was need to promote education. He hailed the school for emphasising science subjects despite being in a rural setting.
