BUGANDA Kingdom has scored a first by having thousands of its graduates’ records entered into a database.

The database includes photos, academic and family backgrounds. His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, received a copy of the book from an official who said it was also available on CD.

Mutebi, the chief guest, arrived at KK Beach in Gaba at 3:45pm with cheers from his subjects as flags flew at half-mast in honour of fallen Lt.Gen. Dr. John Garang.

Last Friday’s event, the first of its kind in the country, brought together all kinds of graduates from the 2000-2005 period.
Gowns and mortarboards were worn atop colourful suits, tunics and gomesis.

Excited youthful and aged students including MP Latif Ssebagala and UYD’s Mukasa Mbidde marched before their king with certificates of recognition held aloft. The Kabaka was happy to see the big crowd and pledged the kingdom’s support for education. Amidst applause, he cut a cake shaped like a book.

The king’s subjects are supposed to be composed before him but when it comes to ‘stealing’ photo shoots with him, dignity is discarded. The students jostled to appear in Kodak moments with him as he moved to several corners including the Prisons Band’s.
