Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) women emerged champions of their international memorial tournament after winning a nail-biting final 3 -2 against Kampala City Council (KCC) at Lugogo Sunday night.
The women took advantage of the absence of KCC’s Harriet Ssali – after she head butted a board in the indoor stadium and the instability of step in blocker Emma Ariyo to take the first set 25-19.
KCC got back to take the second set 27-25 and the third 25-22 before KAVC returned to force a 2-2 draw and then win the decisive set.
In the men’s final Pirre Uwamahoro, the tallest man at the two-day event, ensured Rwandese People Army (APR) team pick their second successive title. Standing at over seven feet, Uwamahoro set blazing spikes that saw APR beat hosts KAVC 26-24 25-19 25-20. The memorial attracted two Rwandan and ten local teams.
