HAMZA Saleh has been named captain of the national U-19 team ahead of the regional World Cup qualifiers slated for South Africa August 20-26, reports Ronnie Kintu.

The youngster guided Uganda to a six-wicket victory over the US on his senior debut in Ireland last month.

Robert Kisubi, the selection committee boss, released a squad of 14 players yesterday, confident that they would return to the World Cup in Sri Lanka next year.

Uganda for the first time made it to the U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh last year after the qualifiers in Namibia.

“It is an improved side capable of storming the World Cup again. I believe it is the best composition that will bring us the best results,” Kisubi said.

The squad has eleven players from the Bangladesh team. The team departs for Johannesburg on Monday.
