COCA-COLA has extended a sponsorship package of sh40m towards the primary schools football championship later this month.

The primary schools package is part of the sh245m unveiled by Coca-Cola promotions manager Kennedy Mutenyo for the remaining schools’ calendar at Lugogo yesterday.

According to Mutenyo, the inaugural tournament involving five divisions of Kampala will take place between August 20-26.

“We thought it better to go down to the grassroots. And eventually we shall cover the whole country,” he said.

The company has been associated with the prestigious annual Coca-Cola Cup for secondary schools.

Coca-Cola also sponsors the Schools Cricket Week, basketball, rugby and inter-university games.

Sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi hailed the sponsorship as a good supplement to government efforts to sports development.

The teams that have qualified for the inaugural primary event include Kibuli Demonstration, Police Children School, Kibuye (Makindye), Mackay Memorial, Bright Trust, Kibuye Public (Rubaga).
Others are Kawempe Muslem, Takuba, Hommisdallen (Kawempe), Kamwokya Islamic and Bat Valley, Nakivubo (Central). Kiswa, Naguru Katale and Mackson Bay will represent Nakawa division.
