RICE farmers in Kiyanga sub-county, Bushenyi district have attacked proprietors of loan businesses for unfavourable conditions.
The farmers, under the Kiyanga Rice Growers and Marketing Association, said some farmers ended up in jail because of loans that accumulated before the harvest was done.
Their chairman, Fred Mugabe, said people grow crops like rice but do not eat it because of loans.
Mugabe said this at the hand over of three tonnes of upland rice seeds worth sh4.5m to the association, under the area Agriculture Modernisa-tion Programme (AMP) at Kiyanga sub-county headquarters on Wednesday.
The LC3 chairman, Deo Tukwasibwe, said out of 225 farmers who received loans from British American Tobacco to grow tobacco last season, only 25 had paid back.
