AN Indian-based multinational firm dealing in healthcare and personal care products has become the latest entrant into Uganda’s lucrative beauty and cosmetics market.
Himalaya Drug Company, launched its products at the weekend at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala.
Uganda becomes the third country in Africa where Himalaya operates after launching in Kenya and South Africa last year.
Local giant distributors, Dembe Trading Enterprises has been appointed sole distributors.
“Our research revealed that the Ugandan market is relatively easy to penetrate because of its fairly big and well-informed consumers,” said Tom Joseph, the Himalaya’s trade and marketing manager for Africa and the Middle East.
The 100% herbal products are made from natural herbs from the famous Indian Himalaya Mountains.
They have no side effects, Joseph said.
“This is the first time a 100% herbal product will be distributed to supermarkets and pharmacies in Uganda,” Joseph said.
He told hundreds of excited guests and potential customers at the launch that the products were tailored to suit Africa’s diverse tropical climate.
