OLD boys of Busoga College Mwiri on Saturday contributed sh172m during a homecoming and fundraising drive at the school.
The fundraising exercise, to be held annually until 2011 when the school commemorates 100 years, aims at addressing emergency interventions such as water, sanitary facilities, scholastic materials, furniture, provision of new dormitories and provision of staff accommodation.
Education minister namirembe Bitamazire, who represented President Yoweri museveni, auctioned a portrait of the late Rev. F. G. Coates. He was headteacher between 1660-65.
Busoga Diocese Bishop Michael Kyomya led a memorial service for the late Coates.
Bitamazire called for demystification of the teaching of science to equip students with skills based on everyday life experiences.
