THE army hit an LRA group commanded by Vincent Otti, the LRA second-in-command, as it fled from northern Uganda to southern Sudan on Wednesday, killing about 20 rebels.
This brings the rebel death toll to 45 in three three days of air raids.
The army intelligence co-ordinator in the north, Col. Charles Otema Awany, said the UPDF helicopter gunship attacked Otti and his fighters soon after they had crossed into southern Sudan at Kit Valley.
Security sources said Otti, who had been in Pader and Kitgum districts, fled through Waligo on the border with about 30 rebel fighters.
Independent sources said UPDF air raid group dispersed Otti’s group from other LRA commanders shortly after a meeting with Joseph Kony in southern Sudan.
The source said Kony had warned his commanders against surrendering or talking peace with the government. The army recovered arms and loot.
The UPDF first attacked Otti’s position at Kadomera in Palabek sub-county, Kitgum, on Monday before he fled to Sudan. Ten rebels were killed.
