Drivers with forged driving permits are to undergo training and testing before acquiring the new Computerised Driving Permit (CDP).

The CDP, which took effect from yesterday, will require the aspiring driver to be conversant with traffic regulations and to have fulfiled all requirements needed to get a permit.

The testing and verification will be done by the Police, URA and the works and transport ministry officials, so any forgery will be detected.

The transport state minister, Andruale Awuzu, launched the CDP issuing and management system yesterday at Face Technologies offices in Kyambogo, Kampala.

Awuzu said the new computerised permits would replace the current ones, which “are highly susceptible and vulnerable to fraud and forgeries, resulting into increased road accidents and loss of revenue to government.”
