PERSONS with disabilities (PWD) are to be sensitised on the Persons With Disabilities bill 2005, the chairperson of the equal opportunities committee and women Member of Parliament Dora Byamukama (Kyenjojo) has said.
She said the committee would hold workshops starting this month throughout the country.
PWD women MP (Northern) Margaret Babadri said the bill should design educational policies and programmes that promote the special needs and requirements of PWDs.

Ssabaruuli bags sh5m

THE Ssabaruuli, the cultural head of the Baruuli-Banyara clans, has denied reports that he did not receive the sh5m facilitation given to traditional leaders. “I got the money. Who said I didn’t? Am I not a cultural head?’’ the Ssaabaruuli, Isabarongo Mwogezi Butamanya, said yesterday. Press reports said Butamanya who was installed in December, was not included on the list of traditional leaders to benefit from the sh5m monthly facilitation that has been instituted by Government.

Scouts told
KAMPALA — The executive director of the Uganda Investment authority, Dr. Maggie Kigozi, has urged scouts to be more assertive, saying they play a role in promoting investment and tourism. Kigozi said this on Sunday at a farewell dinner and award ceremony for 26 British scouts at the residence of the Population Secretariat official, David Bahati in Konge, a city suburb. The scouts were in Uganda to build a community centre in Kabale district.

Boss backs
MASAKA — The LC5 chairman, Vincent Ssempijja, has backed the government to suspend the restructuring exercise in districts. Ssempijja told a press conference that the majority of the affected district staff had enrolled for studies to up-grade their academic levels. He said the restructuring exercise had paralysed work.
