FOR the last 13 years of the Coca Cola schools cricket championships, three schools have had a grip on the trophy.
Busoga College Mwiri lifted the maiden trophy in 1993 and went on for an eight-year reign. King’s College Budo lifted the trophy in 2002 and Jinja SSS in 2003.
Twelve schools assemble at Makerere College School once again for the annual tournament starting tomorrow.

Busoga College Mwiri
With the departure of stars like Davis Arinaitwe, Hamza Saleh, and Dennis Musali after Senior Six, the holders will have to dig deep to retain the trophy.

Jinja SSS
The 2002 champions will have a lot to prove in the tournament. Charles Waiswa and Emmanuel Issaneez have since left for other schools, which will affect their performance.

Makerere College School
Makerere College School has never lifted the crown. U-19 internationals Arthur Kyobe, Charles Waiswa and Daniel Ruyange should be able to end the jinx .

Masaka SSS
The first time they took part in the championship, Masaka SSS stormed the super six after a good display of skills last year.

Nyakasura School
Despite a long cricket-playing history the Fort Portal-based school has remained below par due to a lack of exposure prior to the tournament.

Aga Khan High School
They return to the scene after winning the Kampala regional qualifiers, thanks to Ronald Ssemanda.

Lord’s Meade SSS
The Jinja-based side joined the fray last year and made an impact.

Kololo SSS
Backed by many ‘Lugogo boys’, they will be appearing for the first time on the local scene after edging out Kibuli SSS and Kings College Budo in the Kampala regional qualifiers.

Ntare School
Little exposure outside Mbarara means they are always struggling. They are the western region champions.

Kiira College Butiki
From the heart of Busoga, Butiki have been perennial contenders.

St James SSS
Also Jinja-based, St James has played good cricket since their maiden appearance in 1999.

Old Kampala
From 2001 when they made their first appearance in the championship, Old Kampala has been up and down the ladder.
