We will miss the ugly slabs sorely!

SIR — I congratulate the British High Commission upon taking up its new residence in Kamwokya. We will greatly miss them
in the city centre. But more importantly, we will greatly miss the ugly
concrete slabs they had placed on Parliament Avenue for Her Majesty’s
representatives’ security. By the way, when is His Excellency the Ambassador arranging
for their removal? And has the Kampala City Council taken a look at the pavement in front
of the now abandoned building? How about the once well-tended flower
pots? These two are an eyesore!

SIR — Africa can only claim paper independence from colonialists and imperialists! All the actions of the West and the reactions of the developing countries attest to that. A very simple example will do. How could KCC allow the British High Commission to block half of Parliament Avenue for years as if the street belonged to the British? Can the Uganda High Commission in London, for whatever reason, block Trafalgar Square even for a day? Thank God our bosses have relocated to kamwokya and believe me, I am not about to cry. Good riddance!
