Keep them off the roads

SIR — The number of beggars on Kampala streets seems to be increasing. there is a group of able-bodied women and children near shoprite constantly begging. The Government and KCC have the means and capacity to make these Ugandans better citizens by involving them in projects where they can generate some income to keep them off the streets. It is a shame and degrading to see able-bodied people begging on the streets. KCC had got rid of them but the numbers seem to be swelling back. It is time some firm action was taken. These people eventually start stealing from the public.
