AFRICA Rally Championship leader Munna Singh of Zambia will be flagged off first in the Pearl of Africa Uganda rally this weekend.

Unlike last year, the reigning African champion is not troubled by the burden of hitting the road first in a foreign country. “It’s okay. We are now used to opening the way,” he said.

He has to be steady, because, he will be pursued by a powerful Ugandan trio of Riyaz Kurji, Moses Lumala and former African champion Charles Muhangi.

Singh sounded confident yesterday. “It’s good spectators in Uganda are more knowledgeable about the sport. They keep off the way when the car approaches,” he noted.

Munna (28 points) who needs three points in this rally to retain the African title, will be followed by his championship rival Kurji (20 points). To take the Africa crown, Kurji must win the rally with the Zambian not scoring more that two points (finishing out of the top five).

Kurji’s Alpha Rally teammate Lumala will be flagged off third while Tanzanian champion Omar Bakhressa will be fourth off the ramp.

The rally has 23 entrants from Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and Zambia.

Local drivers did route reccing at the weekend ahead of foreign crews that will go to the route tomorrow.

Scrutineering of cars will be conducted at TOTAL Nakawa on Friday ahead off flag off at Speke Resort Munyonyo. Luwero will be the battleground thereafter.

Bukasa Air Services, Alpha Dairy Products, Speke Resort, Spear Motors, WBS.T.V, C.B.S F.M, Radio Simba, Fire Masters, Packaging Technologies and TOTAL Uganda have sponsored the rally.
