TWENTY-nine senior army officers who completed a one-year course at the Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka, Jinja are to report to the Chief of Personnel and Administration on Friday for re-deployment.

TWENTY-nine senior army officers who completed a one-year course at the Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka, Jinja are to report to the Chief of Personnel and Administration on Friday for re-deployment.

Fortunate Ahimbisibwe reports that an army source said yesterday the officers would hand in their leave certificates.

But army spokesman Lt. Col. Shaban Bantariza (above) said the officers would wait for the Commander-in-chief, the President, to redeploy them.

“They will report to the CPA but the commander -in-chief is the one to deploy them. We expect that they will be deployed soon. The army needs their services after training,” he said.

The officers, who passed out on August 5 and completed a pioneer one-year course, were given a 29-day leave before reporting for duty.
Only Lt. Gen Elly Tumwine has been re-deployed at the General Court Martial.

However, sources said a major reshuffle in the army was likely if the Kimaka graduates were to be accommodated in the army structures.

Defence ministry sources said Museveni might only deploy the officers after he has assented to the UPDF Bill, which MPs passed in June.

The officers include Lt. Gen. David Tinyefuza, Lt. Gen. Salim Saleh and Col. Elly Kayanja.
