THE British High Commission (BHC) has removed the concrete barricades with which it and the American Embassy blocked Parliament Avenue since 1998, for fear of being bombed.

The two missions blocked the road which went past their doorsteps after simultaneous bomb attacks on American embassies in Nairobi and Dar-es-Salaam in August 1998.

It was feared that the attackers would also target the two countries’ embassies in Kampala, which shared the same building.

The American embassy has since built its premises in Nsambya, on Gaba Road.

The British High Commission recently moved into its own premises in Kamwokya.
