ALL bodaboda motorcycles in the city are to be registered as security surveillance in Kampala is beefed up.

Kampala RDC Stanley Kinyatta said the registration would take place in all the city’s five divisions of Central, Kawempe, Makindye, Rubaga and Nakawa.

He said investigations had revealed that some bodaboda cyclists were involved in crime in the city.

He said, “We are getting tighter with security. All bodaboda cycles in Kampala will be registered and their records kept.”

Recent statistics by the Uganda bodaboda cyclists Association show that Kampala has close to 100,000 motorcycles.

Kinyatta said following the ban of bodaboda tax, many people had joined the business, including criminals who use it as a base to commit murder.

Last week the Police in an operation carried out in some city suburbs impou-nded 72 motorcycles.

Kampala Police chief Benson Oyo Nyeko on Thursday said the operation would continue till the crimes stop.
