HEAVY trucks that had filled up Iganga town Main Street since Tuesday evening moved out yesterday after H. Young Company Ltd covered the huge holes that had formed in the road at Walugogo.

The workers, who started working with a grader shortly after midday on Thursday, set up a temporary one-way passage.

There was commotion whenever work was stopped to let some traffic through in order to check congestion on either side of the way.

Erez Raviv, the H. Young site manager, said this was temporary work.

“We cannot allow the traffic jams to suffocate this small town while we look on. This activity will take about three days but we shall make permanent repairs by installing another culvert with a wider radius,” Raviv said.

He said the flood waters overwhelmed the single culvert that was very narrow.
Andrew Ejoyat, the Iganga district officer in charge of traffic, said the Police were still on site to guide the traffic.

“When the road is half open, many motorists try to hurry through or want to cross first and if there is no guidance, accidents can result. I think you heard about those hasty drivers who opted to use the railway line, which was a dangerous alternative,” Ejoyat said.

He said motorists who had used the Musita-Mayuge-Iganga route got lost on the way and some run out of fuel.
