FORMER national champion Moses Lumala may have forfeited his Castrol-Mogas Independence rally National Rally Championship (NRC) points but his decision to participate in the event has complicated Ponsiano Lwakataka’s title bid.
Alpha Rally Team’s Lumala, who opted to score NRC points in the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla rally last month, last week said he would still compete in the Castrol-Mogas rally due next month.
“I will drive to enjoy myself but it will destabilise the situation. People’s calculations have to change now. If I win, the second person won’t score maximum points or if I finish second the third person will not take second place points. That’s now bad news for Lwakataka,” Lumala said.
Lwakataka, who trails championship leader Riyaz Kurji by 60 points, must win the Castrol-Mogas rally and hope that Kurji does not score more than 40 points.
The Uganda Motor Club (UMC) organised rally, that will determine the 2005 champion, will be concentrated in Jinja.
Top drivers who missed out in the Pearl of Africa event last week intend to join the rally.
