The Buganda Land Board has fenced off Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi’s land, saying he has not paid tenancy fees for two years.
The 24-acre land at Buziga hill, Makindye Division, was fenced off about two weeks ago.
However, unknown people pulled down the fence comprising barbed wire and wooden poles.
Dr. Kiyingi is on remand in Luzira Prison as a suspect in the murder of his wife, Robinah Kiyingi.
The land board secretary, Levi Zzimbe, has been accused by local council authorities of being behind the fencing.
In a September 15 letter to local authorities, Zimbe said, “This is to introduce you to guards from the Kabaka’s protection Unit who have been deployed to guard two pieces of land belonging to the Kabaka of Buganda.”
It added, “Unknown people vandalised the fence around the two pieces of land, which the Ssabasajja is to develop in the very near future.”
Kiyingi, in an August 19 letter to the land board, said Mengo officials had failed to collect the tenancy fees, despite his willingness to pay.
“I asked Zimbe for an up-to-date account to regularise my payments. Up to now I have not received any updated invoices,” he said.
