FORMER FUFA president Dennis Obua (pictured) has reiterated his stand on the local soccer governing body’s top seat saying he would not seek the chair again.

He said that failure by his camp to come out with a common candidate for the FUFA polls in December will not entice him to have another go at the presidency.

“I have enough work at CECAFA, CAF and FIFA. My role in Ugandan football will be advisory, let others try,” he said yesterday after it emerged that Rwanika and Kavuma Kabenge from his camp insisted they would both stand for the presidency.

Sources close to the embattled former Cranes winger indicated that he was considering fronting Masindi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hassan Galiwango after Chris Rwanika failed to ganer support.

Others in the race are Lawrence Mulindwa and Haji Badru Sebyala.
Kabenge, who is also on the FUFA interim committee, remained defiant yesterday after talks by the Obua supporters to get one candidate. “I have declared because capable people are fearing. I cannot allow Chris Rwanika nor Zubair Galiwango to lead FUFA”, said Kabenge.

Obua’s executive was disbanded just before polls early this year by government after which FIFA apppointed an interim normalisation commitee headed by Dr. James Sekajugo.

“For sure my camp needs a strong person, if Kabenge is the best, there is no problem. There are fears and mistrust ever since Chuni (Yusuf Kyeyune) crossed camps and joined Mulindwa,” said Obua, who wants a single candidate to take on Mulindwa. The latter is seen as favourite to win the FUFA polls.

Chuni’s defection was seen as a big blow to the Obua camp as the latter is regarded as one of the best schemers in Uganda’s football politics.

“If they fail to agree, I will get another candidate. I don’t believe in fighting, I like team work. But if people hesitate, I have the answer”, said Obua.

Kabenge’s declaration raises the total of intending candidates to five.
