GOVERNMENT has developed the Rural Development Strategy (RDS) to boost farmers groups under National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) with credit, agriculture minister Janat Mukwaya said recently.
Mukwaya said this during a tour of NAADS activities in Mbarara, Kasese, Bundibugyo, Kabarole, Masindi, Apac and Lira.
Mukwaya said under RDS, the Government was aiming at increasing farm and household outputs of the selected a products and promote value addition to ensure a stable market.
She said the intervention would be channelled through local government using the organised groups like NAADS institutional set up.
“Through this support, the capacity of farmer groups to access input and output markets will be further developed, and their ability to take up sustainable use of improved technologies will be enhanced,” said Mukwaya.
She said under the Plan for Modernisation of Agriculture farmers should utilise the smallest land available for increased production.
The NAADS chairman Dr David Kazungu said they would continue giving support to the sub-counties shifted to the newly created districts.
