KAMPALA — The government has agreed in principle to pay gratuity and other benefits to movement Secretariat employees and mobilisers, the High Court has heard. Principal State Attorney Angella Kiryabwire told Justice Okumu Wengi on Monday that since they had agreed to settle the case, they would need another short adjournment to enable them reach a common figure, which the Government would pay out to the claimants.

Obote case
KAMPALA — Dr. James Rwanyarare has hired international courier, DHL, to serve Dr. Milton Obote with court papers, requiring the UPC party president to appear in a Ugandan court. rwanyarare’s counsel, Oscar Kihika, told Justice Vincent Kagaba that DHL would serve the court summons on Obote in Zambia. Kagaba directed Obote to file his defence by November 4.

Party pleads
KAMPALA — The National Progressive Movement (NPM) party has asked the Electoral Commission to postpone presidential elections for another six months because opposition parties have not been given ample time to canvass for votes. NPM chief Venansius Baryamureeba yesterday said no civic education had been carried out about the transition to multiparty politics.

Court drops
KAMPALA — Buganda Road Court yesterday dismissed one more case out of 42 against former Property Masters chief Patrick Kasulu. Chief magistrate Margaret Tibulya dismissed the case of issuing false cheques worth sh52m to Andrew Bashaija, after defence lawyer McDusman Kabega told court that the case had dragged on for so long without the state summoning witnesses and availing court with the Police file.
