Lira district is to create two new internally displaced persons’ camps to decongest the camps in the district.
The health secretary, Tony Ogwang Adwari, on behalf of the LC5 chairman Franco Ojur (below), said this at a media workshop at St. Augustine Hall in Lira town.
Adwari named the new camps as Ogwete in Olilim sub-county and Walela in Aroma sub-county. “The creation of the camps is part of the decongestion policy in the district,” he said.
He said camps had caused moral degeneration in the district. “There is a lot of divorce among couples, children are moving onto streets, prostitution is rampant and criminals have moved into camps,” he added.
Olimi and Aromo are the two biggest camps in the district and they are situated at the most affected part of the district by the insurgency.
