THE army has confirmed that LRA rebels raided Teso last week. The rebels attacked Angica and Iyalakwe internally displaced persons’ (IDP) camps in Obalanga, in the newly-created Amuria district on Wednesday and Friday and burnt over 30 huts.

The army had initially doubted the attacks were by the LRA rebels.

Army spokesman Lt. Col. Shaban Bantariza yesterday said the group of about 15 rebels crossed from the north of Patongo and entered Teso through the Pader border line.

“These are casualties from the LRA mobile sick-bay formerly under Lakati, who was killed in June this year. We have killed seven of them and they have withdrawn to Pader and we are still pursuing them.

“We have also recovered four rifles, 160 bullets, 150 bottles of Penicillin (PPF) and four magazines,” he said, adding that the group was now under the command of Dominic Ongwen and moves from village to village.

A local council official, Michael Omoji, was reportedly killed in the attack, while a 14-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl were reportedly still missing.

On Saturday, Soroti RDC Musa Ecweru displayed a body reportedly of an LRA commander at Soroti Independence Square. Ecweru, the Arrow Boys coordinator, displayed the body to disapprove the army’s earlier claim that the attackers were not LRA rebels.

“I have brought this body here for all to see that LRA rebels had infiltrated Teso,” he said.
