A coalition of women organisations has recommended that at least 40% of the executive of every political party or organisations be filled by women.

The coalition, under the stewardship of the Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) and four other organisations, on Thursday presented its views on three Bills being examined by the legal and parliamentary affairs committee.

UWONET coordinator Solome Nakaweesi, who led the team, said they were concerned that women’s participation in politics and decision- making was still minimal.

Nakaweesi (right) said engendering electoral laws, including the Presidential Elections Bill, 2005 and the Political Parties and Organisations Bill, 2005, was one of the ways of ensuring that gender equity and equality objectives are met.

Present were women representatives from FIDA, Forum for Women in Democracy, Uganda Land Alliance and EASSI.
