Hima gives sh21m to Makerere Impis

HIMA Cement unveiled a sh21m sponsorship package to Makerere Impis Rugby Club at Kyadondo Rugby Club yesterday.

The package announced by Hima general manager Robert Nyanga’ya covers the league, a new kit and funding the 12th edition of Hima International 10s due November 5-6 at Kyadondo. Makerere Impis are organisers of the popular Hima International 10s.

“This is part of our commitment to promoting rugby in the East African region. This year our sister company Bamburi spent Ksh2.5m (sh50m) on the Bamburi Super Series,” Nyanga’ya said at the launch of the event.

“We have consistently sponsored Hima Impis and this tournament because we are pleased with our partnership with Impis,” he added.

The tournament has been shifted from its traditional venue at Makerere University to Kyadondo which has better facilities and is easily accessible to the public.

Kenya Commercial Bank, Mean Machine, Nakuru, Rwanda and Tanzania national teams are the foreign teams that have so far confirmed participation.

Mwamba and Impala are also to compete in the event. MTN Heathen are defending champions.

WBS TV, Makerere University and Kyadondo are co-sponsors of the tournament.
