ABDU ‘The Cobra’ Tebazalwa returned to Little Flowers with a bang Saturday evening when he beat Zimbabwean Peter “The Sniper” Pampeni to claim the vacant IBF continental Africa super featherweight belt.

A devastating left hook in the fifth round floored Pampeni in a tense fight.

The Zimbabwean started with venom in the first three rounds with solid combinations as he scored from the outside while tugging to disorganise Tebazalwa’s game plan.

But the Ugandan stood the pressure opening up the opponent with punches to the mid section and stomach before the lethal left hook took its toll. The Zimbabwean was however, leading on the cards of all four judges.

“He was a very awkward fighter and I had to open him up with few hard punches to the stomach. His trainer had told him to change his style from southpaw to orthodox,” Tebazalwa said after the win.

“I am ready for the big stage and it is now up to my promoters.”

Tebazalwa improved to 8-0-0 (7KOs) while Pampeni is 9-2-0(3 KOs).

The fight was five hours late as the promoters, Jukbox Promotions, delayed to pay sanction fees for the fight to go on.

The evening also suffered a ten minute power blackout. The fight was sponsored by Air Tanzania, Katumwa Sports Centre, Scandnavian Express, Busscar and Uhuru Executive.
