FIFA development officer in charge of East and Central Africa, Ashford Mamelodi returns on October 26 for the FUFA extra-ordinary general assembly on December 29. Sources within FUFA normalisation committee revealed that Mamelodi’s early arrival ahead of the assembly is to streamline shortcomings in the proposed constitution.

Team trains
THE national karate team has entered non-residential training at Bugolobi Leisure Centre ahead of several regional karate tournaments later this year. The team trains on weekends. “The team is preparing for regional tournaments in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi,” Uganda Karate Association secretary James Kyewuswa said.

Gulu bans
SAINT Joseph’s College Layibi and Crested Crane HS have been banned indefinitely from the Gulu Post Primary Schools football competitions because of involvement in hooliganism. This followed two violent brawls involving students from the two schools during the semifinals of this year’s Uhuru Cup.

Sacred keeps
SACRED Heart Secondary School lifted the Gulu Uhuru Netball Cup for keeps after winning it for the last three years in a row. Sacred Heart beat their traditional rivals Gulu High School 28-18 in this year's championship final at Pece on Tuesday.

UABF trials
UGANDA Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) president Ishaq Kamoga and his entire executive are to blame for the plummeting standards of the game. That was what most delegates said after the UABF annual general meeting flopped in Busia last Sunday. Kamoga, who replaced Vic Byarugaba in January, was accused of taking a back seat instead of mobilising resources.

League style
FUFA normalisation committee member Kavuma Kabenge believes that the league format used this year — where clubs played in groups before the quarterfinals — will again be used next season. The new City Tyres Super League season starts in the last week of November.

Kenyan wins
NEW DELHI - Kenyan Philip Rugut and Russia's Irina Timofeyeva won the men's and women's titles in the Delhi international half-marathon on Sunday. Rugut clocked one hour one minute 55 seconds to complete the 21-km race, run through the heart of the Indian capital, to collect the winner's cheque of $20,000. His compatriot Duncan Kibet was second and Tanzania's Martin Sulle third.

Haile’s record
AMSTERDAM - Twice Olympic 10,000m champion Haile Gebrselassie set a course record in the Amsterdam marathon on Sunday but failed to better the two-year-old world record. The 32-year-old Ethiopian, who retired from the track after last year's Athens Olympics, clocked 2:6.20 hours.
