IN the bid to beautify the city, Kampala City Council (KCC) is to shift Nakasero Market from the city centre to kamwokya, a city suburb, writes Florence Nakaayi.

Shauri Yako Market will be modernised and part of it will be a leased to a developer to construct shops, public parking and residential flats.

Mayor John Ssebaana Kizito on Thursday said since most items in the ordinary markets could be found in supermarkets in town, the area occupied by Nakasero Market could be taken up by modern facilities to increase revenue.

“We can build supermarkets and a shopping mall in this area,” KCC secretary for finance Francis Rwego said.
