KAMPALA — The Electoral Commission (EC) has appealed to Ugandans aged 18 years and above to take advantage of the extended weekend, including the public holiday, to register for the 2006 elections. In a statement dated October 22, EC chief Eng. Badru Kiggundu urged voters to pick their photo-bearing cards before the register update ends on Friday.

DP trains
KABAROLE — The Democratic Party (DP) is training its members in western Uganda in preparation for its delegates’ conference. DP secretary for national mobilisation Fred Mwesigwa on Friday trained members from Kabarole, Bundibugyo, Kasese, Kyenjojo and Kamwege districts in Fort Portal municipality.

KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni on Friday met two presidential aides to the US President, George W. Bush, at State House Nakasero. Museveni told Dr. Cyndi Courville, the senior director of African Affairs at the National Security Council, that Uganda wanted the Lusaka Agreement on the DR Congo implemented.

HEALTH minister and Rujumbura MP Jim Muhwezi has said he will join other Ugandans to welcome Col. Kiiza Besigye from exile on Wednesday. He said this on Saturday after being elected as NRM chairman for Nyakagyeme sub-county, Rukungiri district.
