Buganda’s Prince David Wasajja has asked the Government to return properties belonging to his father, the first Ugandan president, Edward Muteesa II.

He criticised the Government for spending millions of shillings on the burial of former president Milton Obote.

Wasajja, a young brother of Kabaka Ronald Mutebi, was addressing Baganda at Wankulukuku stadium at the commemoration of the return of Muteesa from exile in October 1955. Muteesa was again forced into exile, where he died. His body was returned in 1971.

Bukedde ku Ssande, The New Vision’s sister paper, quoted Wasajja as saying, “I know what I’m talking about. I don’t have to mince my words. (President) Museveni has treated with urgency matters regarding Obote but is very slow on our issues.”

He said the President had neglected Muteesa’s wife, Damalie Kisoso-nkole, who is living at Namirembe. “Museveni does not even give her a penny but he has given Obote’s side millions,” he said.

He said while in power, former president Idi Amin purchased two farms for Muteesa’s children at Gegedde and Kiwafu, which supported their education, but when Museveni came, he gave them to Indians, promising to compensate them, which he has not done up to now.

Wasajja said when Obote abolished kingdoms, he compensated traditional leaders in other areas except Buganda.
