Prizes worth over sh35m have been given to over 120 customers by Simba Telecom and Dembe FM in the jus-concluded Nokia phone promotion.

Livingstone Serimu won the grand prize of a Nokia 6069 phone worth about sh2m. Erik Van Veen, the director of Simba Group, said while handing over the prizes that the promotion was aimed at educating customers about fake Nokia products on the market.

“Some telephone dealers smuggle fake Nokia phones and sell them to our customers. We do not want our customers to be cheated and lose trust in Nokia products,” Van Veen said recently at Dembe FM’s head offices in Kampala.

He said 80% of phones on market are Nokia phones but 41% of these are fake. Eunice Karugonjo, the marketing manager, said, “You stand a risk if you buy a phone from Simba Telecom and purchase a fake spare battery or charger from a dishonest trader.”
