NDEJJE University outfit Samuel Kosgei beat a field of over 20 athletes to win the second Athletics Kampala Road race, but Kampala International University star Justine Bayiga had a poor welcome when she was relegated to seventh place.

In the event at the KIU campus on Saturday, Bayiga and Annet Kabasindi were shocked by little known Mildred Chepossis, Sarah Mayo and Mercy Bungei, all from Ndejje, who took the top three positions in the women 6km with ease.

“We have not been training. We have failed to raise funds for our routine training at Namboole,” said Bayiga of hers and Kabasindi’s dismal performance.

The duo is part of the team bound for the Commonwealth Games due in Melbourne Australia next February.

In the men’s event, it was little known Samuel Ssenyomba from an Rhino Club who surprised all when he finished second behind Kosgei.

The next events are Makerere and Kapchorwa races on Saturday.
