Batting prodigy Roger Mukasa, and Arthur Kyobe have been named on the Uganda U-19 squad to start preparations for the youth World Cup slated for Sri Lanka February 5-19.

A total of 27 players were summoned by selection committee chairman Robert Kisubi, to start drills at Lugogo under coach Sam Walusimbi.

Kyobe and Mukasa were dropped from the squad that made it to the regional qualifiers in South Africa where Uganda emerged second and consequently stormed the World Cup for the second time on trot.

Mukasa, 16, is currently local cricket’s leading batsman with over 500 runs in the national league that climaxes this Sunday.

The youngster has scored two centuries and three half centuries in the league showing authority over local leading bowlers like Kenneth Kamyuka, Emmanuel Isaneez and Charles Waiswa among others.

Kyobe, 17, is yet another aggressive batsman with zeal to excel. His ability to step across the line for powerful shots has made him a reliable player for Africa.
The squad would also be drilled by Ed Williams and Chris Kangis expected in the country this week from England.

* Herschelle Gibbs and Nicky Boje have lost their places for South Africa's final two one-day games against New Zealand after deciding not to tour India.
Gibbs and Boje withdrew from the tour party playing five one-day internationals in India next month because of fears they would be detained by Delhi police investigating match-fixing.
