NEGATIVE publicity has limited funding and support for the BIDCO oil palm project, officials said recently.

“The project has faced a lot of negative publicity and resistance based on selfish agenda. This has restricted us and limited our funding,” said Victo Ngo, the managing director of Josovina, one of the investment partners.

Ngo, speaking at the launch of the BIDCO plantation in Kalangala district recently, said they had already invested US$40m in the project.

He asked President Yoweri Museveni for more land for expansion.

The Government has given public land and has been buying land on Bugala Island for the project. BIDCO now has 4,500 hectares.

Museveni told the investors to ignore negative publicity and pledged continued support for the project. He assured the BIDCO representatives that he would get them more 20,000ha of land.
