Your Letters

SIR - I refer to your chess column of 13th November, 2005. The writer talks about UCF discouraging rated tournaments. Obviously it is no secret who disrupted our 10-year New Vision sponsored-tournament.

The ego of one man was bigger than UCF and the chess community. The same individual is not even repentant a year after a ban was slapped on him.
UCF recognises the importance of clubs as the recent end of the league can testify. Any blind man can see that we held more local events this year than were held in the mid nineties. These included: Easter Open, Valentine Day, Mengo, National juniors, National Post Primaries, qualification cycles for Germany and Turin. Germany was a grand success. Walter Okas will travel to the juniors if he can raise a ticket.
True, UCF should appeal to clubs to avoid people who have nothing to contribute except tearing it apart through offers of drinks and closed (the famous invitational?) tournaments that are not sanctioned by UCF.
And if I may ask, which assets are being siphoned away?

Joseph Kaamu
National coach

UABF team resign now
Sir – A lot has been said about the mess in the Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF). As a custom in boxing, I would like to appeal to the Sakka Kamoga executive to throw in the towel and resign.
Its true Kamoga led Kololo High to stardom in the past. That is his only credit. But since assuming office a year ago, the boxing situation has gone from bad to worse.
It is during his reign that boxers went begging in Nairobi. Save us and just quit.

Vincent Mukasa
Masaka
