NORMAN Blick of Nkumba-Marines and Ken Balyejusa of Sadolin Power are among the five nominees for this year’s MTN Basketball League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Alongside the Marines small forward and Power shooting guard are three others pursuing the same award. They are Nkumba-Marines’ Donald Blick and Paul Mwaka and Wilbrod Oketcho who plays for Sadolin Power.

According to the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) technical committee, the list would be reduced to three candidates on November 25 after votes from coaches of the national MTN basketball league’s 40 teams.

Norman Blick is strongly fancied to win the award for a record second time after success in the 2001 season when he led Sky Jammers to the league championship.

The small forward finished top scorer during the 2003 basketball season and also helped Marines to the title this year.

Shooting guard Balyejusa led the Power squad in scoring throughout this season and also stepped up his three-point shooting during the playoff semifinals that saw the team oust defending champions Falcons from the playoffs.

Donald Blick made equally vital contributions for Marines as the team reached the finals for the first time in their history.

Blick held together the nine-man team during their preliminary game against Falcons which saw them improve to second place on the table. Mwaka was a key figure for Marines against Warriors.

The winners in both the men and women’s categories will be announced during the league awarding ceremony November 27 at the Lugogo.
